![]() ![]() ![]() Due to this, the general gameplay revolves around puzzles rather than the more action-filled exploits of Mario. Unlike most Mario characters, Captain Toad is unable to jump due to the heavy backpack he carries at all times filled to the brim with treasure. While both play the same, it’s a sweet take on the narrative and keeps either character from feeling entirely trapped the entire time. They occasionally cross paths along the way, but are usually just out of reach of one another as they march their way through each new deadly terrain in their path. A while into the story, Toadette will have a turn to join in the adventuring as the point of view swaps between both characters trying to meet up again. This prompts Toad’s journey to rescue Toadette as he travels across the land gathering treasure along the way. The adventure begins with Toad and Toadette climbing up a small hillside to a Power Star where they collect it cheerfully before a giant bird by the name of Wingo comes and whisks the Star – and Toadette – away. Toad is back and more portable than ever, so how well does Treasure Tracker hold up as a unique puzzle adventure that is so unlike the other mainline Mario titles? Now four years later, players are taken on an adventure once again with the Switch and 3DS port of the same title. Following the positive response from the small adventures, Captain Toad finally got his own title entry in 2014 for the Wii U. Since Cpt Toad seems to be of an Archaeological bent, it seems likely that he would pursue a similar lead to his previous adventure to find out more. While Captain Toad made his debut in Super Mario Galaxy, he didn’t earn his chance to shine until he was available to play in a mini-game for Super Mario 3D World. The Marioverse is full of repetition (how many times have certain 1-1 stages/levels been reused? What about the times Peach has been kidnapped not by just Bowser, but others as well, sometimes twice or more in a single game? Or how the same Super Mario story/game will be played out again but with Luigi doing it for one reason or another?).the Marioverse is full of repetition (how many times have certain 1-1 stages/levels been reused? So the timeline could go something like this:Ĭaptain Toad Episode 1 > 3D World > Captain Toad Episodes 2+3 > Odyssey So I'm making this post to ask, which ending do you think is canon? Perhaps both of them are?ĮDIT: I think both are canon! As you know, you see the credits twice in the game: Once after Episode 1, and another time after Episode 3. This obviously throws off the continuity, as now we have two endings for the same game, each leading into different games (IMO the original ending is waaay better, it's much more clever and isn't a flat-out advertisement like the new ending is). But in the Switch and 3DS ports, this ending is retconned, and replaced with an ending that leads into Odyssey. As you probably know, Captain Toad on Wii U ended with a reveal that the game was a prequel to 3D World all along.
